For useless information every year Quartzsite Arizona which is maybe 30 or 40 miles south of here becomes the 4th largest city in Arizona when 1,000's of snowbirds move here for the winter and live in the desert in their cars, vans and campers. It's freezing cold by Phoenix standards but those idiots from the midwest think 60°F weather is warm and toasty and love it. The biggest real city if Blythe, California which is on the other side of the Colorado River. Although the event is conducted by and for bus enthusiasts to raise money for charity, it's open to everyone. The 14th annual Buses by the Bridge event takes place Friday through Sunday at Windsor Beach. The event usually draws about 250 buses from around the country, said John Howard, an organizer for the event, now in its 14th year. "We do it all for charity. . . . So far we're getting close to $80,000 we've donated." The buses range from rust buckets to buses worth more than $60,000, Howard said. Prizes will be awarded to bus owners, with the top prize a VW engine and runner-up prizes that include rebuilt transmissions and a Lucky 7 slot machine, he said. There will be a taco dinner at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, a chili cookoff at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, and raffles Saturday night and Sunday morning after the Boy Scout pancake breakfast. Park rules set quiet time starting at 10 p.m. and require that dogs be on leashes. Glass containers are prohibited. Admission is $2 for the weekend for those who are not camping. The weekend camping fee is $25.
